Bill Mattey was born into a family that owned and operated a movie theater. Privileged to watch movies over and over again, Bill was influenced by the interpretation of emotion through imagery. At the age of eight Bill received his first camera and since than has been capturing his own angle on the world.
When digital photography came along Bill started his dream of sharing his interpretation of our world through the combination of landscape photography and cosmic astral imagery. The conflict between these two elements evokes a sense of mesmerizing mystery. These montages give us a graphical representation of the complexity of the physical self and the ethereal cosmological spirit.
Photo montages are several photographs combined in a computer than manipulated until they represent the artists' vision. The digital music industry takes samples of a musical composition and re samples them to create a new song. These montages can be called the digital graphics version of this activity.
“I believe that we are all spirits trapped in a physical presence. The physical is confining and the spirit is free and ethereal. There in lies the conflict we all deal with from day to day. Not understanding the drive that pushes us from place to place may keep us on the wrong path for a long time.....even a life time!”
